Come winter and all us fashionistas start worrying a little about when and how we can show off our outfits we have put so much effort into. Our sweaters and coats have covered it all up. Or have they? Put the effort into layering, we say.
When the temperature begins to drop, it’s all about the layering. Tank tops and shorts are put into storage and out come the sweaters, jackets and scarves. This winter, try these tips to stay warm and look elegant and trendy all at the same time.
It is almost natural for us to reach for darker colours like blacks, greys and navys to avoid looking bulky. Spice up your outfit with coloured woollens and printed knits.
There are times when it’s too cold to get out and we’d rather stay curled up on our sofa covered in our blanket. Try shawls instead. They’re just as cosy and come in prints, which can be a cool fashion statement.
If you keep away from layering out of fear of looking bulky and much bigger than you are, cover up with thin layers. They are way more fashionable and contrary to popular belief, actually make you look thinner!
Fur is our best bet when it’s freezing out there. Let’s not go all out with the fur though; it does tend to make us feel unwieldy. A fur-trimmed coat is perfect to look fantastic without adding the bulkiness.
Slim-cut structured jackets are trendy and look gorgeously slimming as well. If you’re wearing an over-sized sweater, add a classic belt to cinch everything together and give your outfit shape.
Switch your jacket with a cape. This recent trend is an easy fashion statement. Throw it on and you have an instant stylised look.
Sophisticated accessories are a good option for keeping you fashionable in the winters. We don’t want to go grunge with the beanies anymore. Let’s try a beautiful black fedora instead. And swap out those heels for boots. Who would have thought you can wear socks and still look fab?
Scarves are the easiest way to change up the look of an outfit and still keep you cosy. With so many different types of scarves in so many prints and so many various ways to tie one, there’s no doubt that a scarf added to a country bumpkin outfit suddenly makes you look like a fashion diva.
Stay warm and look sleek this winter by getting the basics of layering right.
